I need some help for my son.  He has a cabin in N.C. and is completely off grid and uses solar panels, etc.  What are his options as far as internet goes? Right now, he drives up to a McDonald's to have a wireless connection.  Has anyone had any experience with dishes that attach to the house? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dishes work pretty well, we have Excede/Wild-Blue. Start-up costs can be high depending on who you go through.
However, unlike most services, the amount of data is limited.
It works fine for most things, but if he is going to be streaming video(Hulu, you Tube, etc) it gets costly!
"Normal" use cost us around $60 a month.

Satellite internet is being advertised here in Texas.

The newest one is HughesNet. I can't post a link because I'm new to forum.

We have Dish satellite out at the farm.  It's okay for regular internet surfing, but it doesn't stream movies very well.
